Ella is doing much better today. She is off of the ventilator!!! We are very excited to see her moving her mouth and sticking her tongue out. She is breathing on her own with the help of low flow oxygen. The NEC seems to be gone, her cultures and xrays have not shown evidence of infection for the last two days. She will be on antibiotics for another week to ensure that the infection is gone. The yeast cultures continue to be negative, but she will be on medicine for a yeast infection for another week. Her blood pressure continues to drop when she does not have enough blood pressure medicine. This is largely caused by the sedatives she is still on. Although traces of the infection are gone, the doctors want her to heal and recover. This is very hard because Ella is known as being very active. Due to her activity the doctors have taped her IVs in gauze to keep her from pulling them out, she is a mess! The exciting news of the day is that the nurses let Bentley and I hold her! Bentley held Ella for two hours and I held her for one hour, it was a wonderful hour. Now that Ella is off the ventilator and some of the IVs have been removed we will start taking more pictures and posting them. Stay tuned for Ella's next update, we are eternally grateful for everyone's prayers!
